Driscoll Brothers encourages agencies to enter exhibition fold
Friday, 12 June 2009
Exhibition design and build specialist firm Driscoll Brothers is encouraging design and PR agencies that may be experiencing revenue declines to exploit their established client relationships and sell exhibition services as an add on. Glyn Driscoll, a director of the Wilmslow-based business, said that in the current economic climate it was "essential that agencies find other ways to generate revenue." He continued that many of the firm's current agency clients have "little or no knowledge of events/exhibitions, (but) they find that cross selling these services to their existing clients is a lucrative add-on and a very easy sell.” Driscoll concluded: “The relationship many creative agencies have with their clients is one of trust and this trust can be built on very easily and turned into further profits with very little additional efforts.” The firm has been working within the exhibition sector since 1927.

Lend lease at O2
The 02 Arena has denied national newspaper reports that the venue is up for sale for £35 million.
Meridian Delta Dome Limited, a joint venture between the property companies Quintain Estates and Development and Lend Lease, is reportedly seeking to raise cash by selling the venue’s rental payments.
Reports in the Sunday Times newspaper and the Sunday Telegraph had suggested that MDDL was selling the virtual freehold to the arena and its surrounding leisure space.
A spokesman for the 02 Arena and surrounding leisure space, which is owned by Anschutz Entertainment Group, says: “The sale is simply Lend Lease and Quintain seeking to raise cash by selling our rental payments.
“The O2 arena business, which was funded by AEG, is absolutely not for sale. We have had an incredible first 18 months in business, setting worldwide entertainment records, and are confident 2009 will be even better. We are already booking shows well into 2010.”.
Business as usual insists Emap
Emap, organiser of the UK’s largest exhibition,Spring Fair, has issued a statement that its exhibition is still taking place despite the treacherous weather.
Spring Fair has been battling the wintry conditions which saw travel disruption impact on the usually large visitor numbers from London and the south.
The event, which takes place at Birmingham NEC between 1 and 5 February has 3,000 exhibitors present and attracts over 70,000 visitors.
Emap has said it is not disheartened and that plenty of business is still being done at Spring Fair, but it is too early to know how the weather has impacted.
NEC’s sales director Michael Watton says his team has worked hard to make the venue as safe as possible in light of the weather.
“Overnight on Sunday we tracked the weather forecast and our estates team put together a plan for ensuring that our footpaths, roads and car parks were gritted and ploughed. This enabled us to run our shuttle bus service to the car parks, and ease the travel for our passengers on site,” he says.
